In our 24th Season, Knox United celebrated 3 titles, a dramatic Premier League survival and the accomplishments of our former Club President, Chris Wiseman.
Our newly established U14 juniors had an immensely successful first year bringing home the Division 2 title – scoring an incredible 34 goals and earning 7 clean sheets in the process. Former Premier League coach, Vince Cali brought the success of the past few years to the Under 14s and we look forward to the many trophies that these talented players will bring to the Club.
Following such success the Club is eagerly planning to expand our junior program into the 2020 season and beyond, with a number of potential teams already in discussion. We encourage prospective players and parents who would love to be involved in our growing Knox United community to reach out through the Contact Us Page or our social media platforms.
Knox United’s Over 35s had an equally impressive season. Newly split into teams rather than a squad, our Division 6 boys earned 5 hard-fought wins across the season finishing in eighth place. The Division 5 team on the other hand scored an NSFA season high 78 goals, finishing the regular season in 2nd place and following this up as champions in the grand final thanks to a footballing masterclass in a 4-0 win. Well done lads!
Our Premier League Squad endured a difficult season, but secured top-flight status for another year in dramatic fashion. With the last play of the season, down 3-2 to North Sydney and sitting in last place on the table due to goal difference, we won a free kick 10m out from the corner spot. Sending everyone forward into the box (including our keeper) for a last chance “Hail Mary” play we delivered a bouncing ball into the box which fell to the feet of Charlie Baker, who slotted with composure into the back of the net with the last kick of the game. Snatching this late equalising goal, saw us grab a vital point and jumped us into 8th place out of the relegation zone in the process. The Premier League squad will look to build on this exciting finish and to create more breathing room next season.
The Club’s annual end of season trip to Mallacoota brought even more success and marked the perfect way to finish off a successful season for Knox United. Our premier league boys brought home the Mallacoota Cup Title, winning the tournament for the fourth time and doing so back-to-back for the second time (2013, 2014 & 2018 being the other Mallacoota titles). This represented the first piece of silverware in the cupboard for newly appointed Club President Daniel Rahme.
Finally, the club would like to acknowledge Christopher Wiseman’s service to the Club. After 6 years, Chris has stepped down from the role of President. The Club cannot thank Chris enough for his incredible contributions over these years (and his 3 years as Vice-President). During Chris’ time as President, he secured financial security for the club, oversaw our historic expansion into juniors football, established consistent Premier League status, and celebrated a number of promotions and grand finals wins, including 3 Mallacoota Cup Championships. On behalf of everyone involved at the Club, we would like to thank Chris for everything he has helped the Club to achieve. Thank you Wisey!
